The Triumph Glasgow Roadshow parked up The Green Welly Stop, Tyndrum on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th April for a weekend of test rides, loud bikes and entertainment.
The record-breaking Moto2 prototype was on display and fired up over the weekend to the obvious delight of - now slightly hard-of-hearing visitors!
It was a soggy start to the weekend, with some ongoing precipitationthroughout the Saturday, although the team from Triumph Glasgow, Triumph Motorcycles and the Glasgow Triumph Owners turned up the heated grips and started to warm up the engines while unloading a huge range of the 2019 model range.
Demonstrator models included:
With the following bikes on display:
The group rides weretopped and tailed by experienced Marshalls, headed out from The Green Welly Stop towards Dalmally on the A85, for 15 minutes, turned and returned, closing a 30-minute ride in total. Pre-booked rides left every 45 minutes from 10am to 4pm across the full weekend. With a total of 10 bikes available, fully booked slots, better weather as the weekend moved on - this gave plenty of opportunity for riders to experience the 2019 Triumph model range.
The Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE was one of the most distinctive bikes on display. This 1200 Scrambler appealed to those looking for a fun, adventurous bike, which also has on-and-off-road-capabilities. Many BMW GS owners and previous generation Tiger and Explorer owners were booked well in advance for a spin on this impressive machine.
Kevin McKenzie, one of the Scrambler 1200 test riders said, “What a machine! It just handles so well on that lovely road, I’m amazed, I’d love to see what else it could do!”
Every rider who experienced the Speed Triple RS fell in love with the most powerful and responsive Speed Triple ever made. Those who were lucky enough to throw a leg over this range-topping Triple, were all astounded with the performance, handling, torque and manoeuvrability of this lightweight bike. With it’s quick-shifter, carbon fibre elements, 5 riding modes including “Track Mode”, optimised cornering ABS and traction control, 148 bhp and 117Nm of torque at 7,150rpm, as well as a comfort inducing cruise control setting - it’s no question as to why.
Paul McGee added, “Unbelievable, it’s just got so much power, can I go out on it again?!”
Plenty of laid-back riders who arrived on their Harleys and Triumph Rockets were keen for a comparison ride on the Bobber and Speedmaster. With its custom attitude, forward footpegs, swept-back beach bars and comfortable pillion capability, the Speedmaster was another popular bike during the Triumph Glasgow Roadshow.
As if a full Triumph demonstrator fleet for the full weekend for you to test ride wasn’t enough, when Triumph Glasgow Managing Director Martin Rees fired up The Official 2019 Moto2 World Championship racing bike, visitors and bikers of Scotland could hear this revolutionary and record-breaking bike from miles away!
Rees commented, “What a machine. Imagine hearing 30+ of these bikes all on a track, racing for the Moto2 Championship, giving it all they’ve got, it would be amazing! Each race-tuned Triumph Triple engine for the Moto2 is set up to deliver more than 140PS, that’s an increase of more than 17% over the production bike. Racing will never be the same again!”
Triumph Motorcycles have signed a three-year contract to supply a dedicated race tuned 765cc Triumph triple engine, based on the powerplant from the all-new Triumph Street Triple.
The new engine is a significant development of the race-winning Daytona 675R powerplant that has powered supersports wins at the Isle of Man TT, Daytona 200 and British Supersports Championships in 2014 and 2015.
So, if you think Triumph Glasgow have put on a good show at The Green Welly this weekend, you’d better add TFest, Triumph’s Annual Dealer Open Weekend to your diary. On 11th and 12th May, fans will have the opportunity to view the entire 2019 line-up at Triumph Glasgow, they will be offering test rides on the latest models and providing entertainment for the whole family, new season clothing displays, food and much more.
